Yeti Season, released March 2021 on Big Crown Records, finds Leon Michels steering El Michels Affair somewhere warmer and more optimistic than usual. Singer Piya Malik appears on three tracks, her voice carrying clear traces of Turkish psych-pop and vintage Bollywood, and reviewer Alan Ranta described the record as weaving "Turkish pop, fuzz-prog, and home-cooked lo-fi" into something that radiates hope rather than nostalgia for its own sake. Qanun strings, phased drums and orchestral horns sit alongside deliberately rough, lo-fi touches, with members of Menahan Street Band filling out the arrangements. A deluxe edition even came with a children's book written by Michels's mother.
