Vienna's Oliver Johnson, recording as Dorian Concept, built this 2022 Brainfeeder album around a deliberately reduced process — everything recorded in single takes with no post-editing, layered synths and treated vocals kept in their first-take state rather than refined. Johnson has said he was chasing “the spirit” of initial takes over polished execution, working from instinct rather than his usual drive toward something more “proper.” Thirteen tracks that favor spontaneity over the perfectionism of his earlier records, made entirely solo by Johnson, whose past credits include work with Flying Lotus, Thundercat and MF DOOM.
