Blue Lab Beats made this EP — their debut for Blue Note — in the wake of 2020’s upheaval, intending it explicitly as what producer NK-OK called ‘a healing blanket of songs’ in response to the killing of George Floyd and the protests that followed. Five tracks blend the London duo’s usual boom-bap and jazz-funk with guest turns from Ghetto Boy, Braxton Cook, Kojey Radical and Alex Blake, lead single ‘Blow You Away (Delilah)’ shot on location in Accra. Less a straightforward victory lap after their Blue Note Re:imagined appearance than a considered response to a genuinely hard year.
