Soul Finger, recorded 1964 in New York and released 1965 on Limelight, captures a Jazz Messengers lineup in transition: it was Lee Morgan's final recording with Art Blakey after seven years in the band, and reportedly Gary Bartz's recording debut. John Hicks, Victor Sproles and, on one track, Lucky Thompson round out the session, with Freddie Hubbard sharing trumpet duties with Morgan.
