Love In Exile, released March 2023 on Verve, is the first studio collaboration between Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer and Shahzad Ismaily, recorded live in a New York studio with Aftab singing in Urdu over Iyer's piano and electronics and Ismaily's bass and Moog. The record earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Jazz Album, with "Shadow Forces" separately nominated for Best Global Music Performance, and landed on year-end lists from The New York Times, NPR and Slate.
