Zapp II, released 1982 on Warner Bros., was written and produced by brothers Roger and Larry Troutman, with Roger on lead vocals, guitar and talkbox. The album reached number two on the R&B albums chart and was certified gold that September, powered by the number-one R&B single "Dance Floor." Rolling Stone's Chip Stern judged it a step up from the group's debut.
