Platinum Jazz, released July 1977 on Blue Note, pairs a disc of new War material with a second disc compiling edited tracks from four earlier albums, released after the band and label considered issuing a greatest-hits set alongside an instrumental companion. Produced by Jerry Goldstein with Lonnie Jordan and Howard Scott, it became, by the band's own account, Blue Note's first platinum-certified release.
