The Melodians' 1970 debut, cut during their run with producer Leslie Kong and released on Beverley's Records, is ten tracks of the smooth, close-harmony rocksteady the Kingston trio — Tony Brevett, Trevor McNaughton, Brent Dowe — built their name on. Its title track, adapted from Psalm 137, later became one of Jimmy Cliff's favourite live openers and rode into wider consciousness via The Harder They Come before Boney M's cover took it worldwide in the '70s. Still, this is the original version, recorded years before either of those moments made the song famous beyond Jamaica.
