Desmond Dekker helped launch reggae onto the international stage before most listeners outside Jamaica knew the word, and introduced a young Bob Marley to producer Leslie Kong early on. "Israelites," released in 1968, topped the UK singles chart in April 1969 and broke into the US top ten that June, making Dekker the first Jamaican artist to land a Jamaican-style US hit after Millie Small. This compilation gathers it alongside other Dekker singles, including "007 (Shanty Town)" and "It Mek."
