Producer Bunny Lee built this 1977 set around John Holt reinterpreting soul and R&B standards, songwriting credits running from Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield to Gamble and Huff, through a reggae sensibility rather than straight covers. Twenty-three tracks spanning lovers rock, rocksteady and roots reggae, mostly pitched toward romantic, laid-back listening rather than harder roots material. Reissued repeatedly since, including a 2019 Kingston Sounds pressing, a sign of how enduring Holt's smooth vocal treatment of outside material has proven.
