Cassie Kinoshi's ten-piece London ensemble released this 2019 debut on Jazz re:freshed, its title borrowed from Samuel R. Delany's 1971 science fiction collection. The band, including Sheila Maurice-Grey, Theon Cross and Joe Armon-Jones among its rotating members, fuses African and Caribbean rhythms with a strand of 1960s Blue Note jazz. Kinoshi has described it as a record about what it means to be a young Black British person. Its Mercury Prize nomination that year pushed sales up sharply.
