KALAK, released November 2022 on The Leaf Label, is tabla and drums player Sarathy Korwar's fourth album, produced by New York electronic musician Photay and recorded at Real World Studios. The record takes its name and shape from a sacred-geometry symbol representing the circular nature of time and music, projected in the studio as a visual anchor for the group's improvisations. Track titles like "Utopia Is A Colonial Project" and "Remember Begum Rokheya" nod to colonial history and the Bengali feminist writer, while the cover photographs the symbol as a light sculpture shot across Chennai, Pondicherry and Auroville in southern India.
