Portico Quartet's second album, recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2 in May 2009 and released that October on Real World, follows their Mercury Prize-nominated debut with a darker, more introspective set. Nick Mulvey's hang drums remain the band's most distinctive textural element alongside Jack Wyllie's saxophone and electronics, Milo Fitzpatrick's double bass and Duncan Bellamy's drums and piano — pop, jazz, classical and electronic elements folded together with little friction between them.
