Excellent Traveler, released October 2024 on Third Man Records, is guitarist Nate Mercereau's meditation on environments, real, remembered and imagined, built almost entirely from a personal sample library he plays back and reshapes through his guitar rigged as a sampler and synth controller. Most tracks stitch together multiple solo takes, though several one-take performances remain intact. The samples pull in field recordings from Manhattan, Oakland, San Francisco and Amsterdam alongside contributions from Laraaji, André 3000, Carlos Niño, Idris Ackamoor and Surya Botofasina, a wide cast united by Mercereau's guiding idea, in his words, that "I feel like I, and we, contain the vastness of all infinite potential."
