Bobby Oroza's 2019 debut full-length for Big Crown, produced with Cold Diamond & Mink, centres on the title track — a song that had already become an underground hit following its 2016 single release. Born in Helsinki to a family of musicians, Oroza grew up on Latin, Cuban, jazz, blues, Motown and gospel records through family gatherings, and it shows in a voice pitched somewhere between early Motown drumming and James Bond-era guitar tension. Thirteen tracks moving from upbeat northern soul numbers to intimate, smoky ballads like “Alone Again” and “Down On My Knees,” his smoky vocal style carrying the record's lo-fi, low-key mood throughout.
