Adrian Quesada and Eric Burton built this 2019 debut out of a residency they'd been playing weekly around Austin — Quesada bringing production chops from Grupo Fantasma and Brownout, Burton newly arrived from Los Angeles with a songwriter's voice pulling from Motown as much as Ghostface Killah. Ten tracks, most named after their own turns of phrase (“Black Moon Rising,” “OCT 33”), the record turned the duo into Austin's Best New Band that year before the wider attention arrived. Quesada and Burton wrote and recorded most of it themselves, keeping the arrangements lean rather than chasing a bigger, more polished sound.
