Four years after Source, Nubya Garcia returns with a bigger canvas — twelve tracks pulling in orchestral arrangements alongside her usual blend of R&B, jazz and dub. The core band (Joe Armon-Jones on keys, Daniel Casimir on bass, Sam Jones on drums) stays intact from her earlier work, but Odyssey widens the guest list considerably, with Esperanza Spalding and Georgia Anne Muldrow both featuring. Garcia and Kwes produce again, the pairing that shaped Source now stretched across a more ambitious, arrangement-heavy record — tracks like ‘Dawn’ and ‘Solstice’ giving the saxophone room to sit inside something closer to a small orchestra than a jazz quartet.
