Black Sounds Of Freedom, released in 1981, was Black Uhuru's collaboration with veteran reggae producer Prince Jammy, cut at Harry J's Recording Studio. It followed years of the group, formed in 1974 around Michael Rose, Errol Nelson and Duckie Simpson, working mostly on singles rather than full albums. The record leans into Rastafarian spirituality and African heritage across haunting, groove-driven arrangements, a clear sign of the reggae powerhouse Black Uhuru would become later in the decade.
