Legalize It, released June 1976, is Peter Tosh's solo debut, recorded at Treasure Isle and Randy's studios in Kingston after he split from The Wailers. The title track pushed for cannabis legalization on medicinal grounds and was promptly banned in Jamaica, a move that only raised Tosh's international profile rather than suppressing the record. He framed the album's stakes bluntly at the time: "We are the victims of Rasclot circumstances. Victimization, colonialism, gonna lead to bloodbath." It spent two weeks on the Billboard 200 and was later certified platinum by the RIAA in 1999.
