Nightmares On Wax's 1999 third album for Warp marked a shift from pure sampling toward live orchestral sessions built around the samples that inspired them, opener “Les Nuits” drawing on Quincy Jones's version of “Summer In The City.” AllMusic's John Bush called it a strong argument for trip-hop's continued development. Early pressings shipped with a packet of Rizla rolling papers printed with the album art, a detail that says as much about the intended mood as the music itself.
