The whole project started with a joke that became a rule: when kidkanevil asked to sample from Mr Thing’s famously deep record collection for Record Store Day 2012, Mr Thing agreed on one condition — the records themselves could never leave his flat. Eric Lau and Tall Black Guy joined to round out the quartet, and what followed was a decade of vinyl-only volumes built entirely from beats made inside those four walls, including a dig through the BBC’s John Peel Archive for volume three. This anthology gathers all of it plus four new tracks, the producers now scattered across China, the US and Berlin but still working from the same original constraint.
