Rise, released September 1979 on A&M, was produced by Herb Alpert with his nephew Randy "Badazz" Alpert and recorded using early digital technology, one of the first pop albums to do so. The title track hit number one on the Hot 100, Alpert's first chart-topper since 1968's "This Guy's in Love with You," an unusual feat for an instrumental during the post-disco era. The album itself topped the Jazz Albums chart and won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
