Examples Volume Two, released November 2018 on First Word Records, is producer Eric Lau's fourth instrumental album, a sprawling 28-track run through hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul and Brazilian rhythm. It plays more like a notebook of ideas than a tightly sequenced record, each beat a quick sketch rather than a fully built-out song. "Jeff's Piano" started life as an iPhone recording Lau made of Kaidi Tatham teaching Masego chords at DJ Jazzy Jeff's studio, and Tatham's keys turn up elsewhere on the record too. Lau has mixed and produced for Yussef Kamaal, Mansur Brown and Masego, and toured internationally as a DJ alongside Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper.
