Two Sevens Clash, recorded in 1976 at Joe Gibbs's Kingston studio and released in 1977, is Culture's debut album, built around bandleader Joseph Hill's vision of July 7, 1977 as a day of reckoning, drawn from Rastafarian numerology around the convergence of sevens. On the day itself, parts of Kingston reportedly went quiet, with shops closed and people staying indoors. Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare anchor the rhythm section, and the album has been reissued multiple times since.
